Softball season typically begins mid-May, once all fields are clear of snow and water. Season ends in August with the final tournament weekend. Girls will play approximately 14-20 games per season. Coaches will draft their teams at the beginning of May, and contact their players a week before the season start date.

Depending on divisions, games played are typically either at 6 p.m. or 8 p.m. from Monday to Thursday (note: Mites never play at 8 p.m.). Mites play 2 nights per week, from Monday to Thursday, depending on field availability. Squirts typically play on Mondays and Wednesdays, Peewee on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Bantam on Mondays and Wednesdays and Midget on Tuesdays and Thursdays (subject to change). The occasional rainout game may be scheduled for Sunday afternoons.

Games are played weekly on one of the following city fields:

Fred d'Alessio Field at Kinsmen Park

Third Street and Carleton Avenue

Brian Tardiff Field at King George Park

Seventh Street and York Street

Juanita Courville Field at Reg Campbell Park

Leitch Drive and Fraser Avenue

Optimist Park

Sunnyside Avenue and St. Michel Avenue

Player Equipment

Players from Mites through Midget are to provide their own glove & helmet with full face cage. Cleats are optional, however no metal cleats are allowed in any age division. At the beginning of the season, players will receive a jersey and ball shorts. New players to KMGS will also receive one pair of striped ball socks. All subsequent pairs will be the player's’ responsibility. Full uniform must be worn for all games.

KMGS provides each team with a couple age appropriate bats, catcher equipment and balls. Players can also use their own bats - we recommend the following bat sizes based on age division of the player:

  • Mites - 26-28 inch x 15-17oz
  • Squirts - 28-30 inch x 16-19oz
  • Peewee - 30-32 inch x 17-21oz
  • Bantam - 32-34 inch x 19-24oz
  • Midget - 33-34 inch x 21-26 oz
