What is it?
An Opportunity to play a higher level of ball as part of the Ontario Softball Select Tournament Association (OSSTA). Playing Selects for the Cornwall Cyclones is ideal for those players who want and are prepared to represent Cornwall at tournaments throughout the summer.
The goal?
- Train and develop selected house league players to become better ball players in a FUN atmosphere coupled with positive feedback and encouragement.
- Condition and raise the performance and effort of each player with the goal of increasing the overall skill level and competitiveness of the team.

Are you willing to learn and demonstrate a firm commitment (100% effort at all times)?
If you answered yes to all of the above, we invite you to tryout for one of the Select teams. Players may only tryout/play for a higher age group with permission from the coach of the team in their age group, and from the KMGS Executive.
What does playing Selects involve?
Competitions
OSSTA teams normally enter into 2 to 4 tournaments throughout the summer: June, July and August. Tournaments are usually 1-day events and are normally held on a Saturday. The format is a round robin with teams playing a minimum of 3 games and some travelling is required. Pending qualification, our Select teams may play in the Provincial Select Championship held in mid to late August, usually after the Kinsmen house league tournament. The Provincial Championships are typically held over 2 days.
Financial Commitment
In addition to house league registration costs, there will be a nominal fee to cover the Select uniform and tournament registration fees. Typically the cost is about $250, depending on number of tournaments and/or extra exhibition games individual teams choose to play. Select players are expected to have their own glove, batting helmet and softball cleats (rubber tipped). Batting gloves are optional.
Time Commitment
In addition to the tournaments, select players are required to play for their respective house league teams during the regular season. Select players will also be required to attend one additional practice weekly that will not conflict with their house league schedule.
